Weed Seeking Missiles

The Inland Fisheries Service in Tasmania does a great job stocking a range of waters across the state with wild brown trout, often relocated from The Great Lake.

Nearby Great Lake are a couple of inconspicuous waters - like Camerons Lagoon and Bruisers Lagoon - which are included on the stocking program. Both are more fishable early in the season when there is enough water around and the temperatures haven’t risen.

Generally fished early or late in the day they will sometimes offer up some great stalking opportunities - the chance to spot subtle movements in weed as the sign of a fossicking fish.

Unweighted wet flies moved gently high in the water column can elicit some spectacular takes. The challenge then is to either keep the fish out of the weed or to be prepared to do some gardening!
